Dotard and madman saga causes market to crash

Published

on

It’s unfortunate that world leaders are engaging in the act of name calling while the common man has to bear the brunt. The Indian market was the worst to be affected after North Korea stated that it would drop an H bomb in the Pacific ocean. Nifty suffered major setup and closed below the 10,000 mark after North Korea’s threat that it may test a nuclear weapon in the Pacific. Benchmark indices posted their biggest single-day loss in 10 months. It all started when Kim Jong Un called Trump a mentally deranged U.S. dotard.  According to Merriam-Webster, a “dotard” is a “person in his or her dotage,” with “dotage” further defined as “a state or period of senile decay marked by decline of mental poise and alertness.”

In response to the dotard statement, President Trump tweeted “Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn’t mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!”. President Trump has been working on the forefront to ensure the complete denuclearization of North Korea. It will be interesting to see if this adds to the growing approval rating for President Trump whose ratings improved after positive reaction to hurricane response in Florida.

Beta is often measured against the S&P; 500 index. An S&P; 500 stock with a beta of 2.0 produced a 20 percent increase in returns during a period of time when the S&P; 500 Index grew only 10 percent.
